OHHHH Miami…where do I start? Perhaps with a personal story about Miami which will hopefully shed some light about my love and “hate” relationship with Miami. Growing up in Venezuela and attending an American school it was a known fact that I would move to the US for college. The questions was where in the US would I go? At the time my older brother Roberto lived in Miami and of course that seemed like an obvious choice. However I wanted something different, I knew that if I was going to move to anther country I wanted to have the full on “American experience” and try something completely different from my upbringing in Venezuela. Hence, I ended up in cold…cold Chicago. With its Latin flare Miami has always felt like “home” and perhaps a bit “familiar.” Even though I lived in the US all throughout college I spent about 3 years without visiting Miami until recently…I was in Miami in January and back again in late February. I personally feel the city and the vibe of Miami has changed…or maybe I’ve changed? The influence of art is visible wherever you go, I’ve had some of the best dinners (see below) in Miami, and the entrepenrual spirit is everywhere. Below I’m sharing my top 10 chic (blogger perspective of course) things to do in Miami. Have you been to Miami before? Looking forward to hearing your feedback below!
Visit the Wynwood area: I’ve shared my love for the Wynwood area many times before as you can see here and here. Wynwood has become the new “IT” place in Miami. All of its colorful murals is a hub for bloggers, tourists and photographers. Tons of shopping, outdoor coffee shops and a casual feeling. The pictures above where taking in Wynwood and the murals are constantly changing, definitely worth the visit.
Beach: It wouldn’t be Miami unless you visit the beach right? I personally love South Pointe beach and if you have the time you can drive to Key Biscane.
Bal Harbour Mall: One of the most beautiful malls in the US, the Bal Harbour Mall is outdoors, filled with beautiful people, greenery and the most high-end stores. While you are there make sure to have lunch at Makoto, order some sushi and corn on the cob…AMAZING!
Miami Design District: The Miami Design District is famous for its art galleries, fashion and design. Make sure to stop by for lunch at the Mandolin Aegean Bistro (Greek restaurant), the best white sangria I’ve ever tried.
American Airlines Arena: If you can plan your visit then its definitely worth watching the Miami Heat play! I’ve always been a basketball fan even at a young age. I had a Michael Jordan poster in my room…haha not your typical 10 year old girl. The environment and ambiance and overall experience at the stadium makes for a fun night.
Brunch, Dinner, Repeat: Miami has some of the best Latin cuisine in the US…hands down. One of my favorite Peruvian restaurants is La Mar, Cantina La Veinte for Mexican and great ambience (lived Mariachis). Outside of the Latin cuisine I would also recommend dinner at Casa Tua and KYU.
Shop, Shop: Besides the Bal Harbour Mall, I would also recommend the Avenutura Mall in and Lincoln Road Mall. Wear your comfy shoes!
Perez Art Museum: I first visited the Perez Art Museum about a year ago and loved the location and its water front views. Known for its contemporary art and its “hanging” garden, definitely worth the visit.
Art Basel Miami Brach: Check the schedule, Art Basel has become a fun event with over 200 art galleries. Tons of parties and events and beautiful people.
Ocean Drive: Passing the historic art deco buildings and Miami Beach.
Location: Wywnood, Miami
